EIFF Youth Hub returns this year with practical workshops, masterclasses and careers advice, all organised for young people aged 16-26 who are passionate about film and might be thinking about a career in the industry. The events will be hosted by film professionals, creative industry organisations and partners such as us here at Screen Education Edinburgh.
From scriptwriting and cinematography workshops to micro-budgeting for productions, Screen Education Edinburgh’s involvement at Youth Hub includes four amazing sessions delivered this year:
Cinematography Workshop (advanced)
Sunday 21 June, 10am-1pm
Grassmarket Community Centre, Main Hall

In this workshop you will learn how to use composition, lens types, lighting and mis-en-scene to enhance your storytelling and create a polished look on a minimal budget. Please note this is an advanced workshop aimed at young people with some experience of filmmaking.
Micro-budgeting for Productions
Sunday 21 June, 4.30pm-5.30pm
Grassmarket Community Centre, Main Hall

Are you an aspiring filmmaker working on super low budget productions? This event is for you. Led by SEE’s Neil Rolland, who is part of the Tartan Features Microbudget Filmmaking collective, you will get practical tips on how to shoot with little to no money in the bank using resources that are close to hand.
Focus on BFI Film Academy

With 38 partners nationwide, including here in Scotland, the BFI Film Academies allows talented 16-19-year-olds from anywhere in the UK and from any background to gain invaluable experience working alongside industry professionals. Screenwriting Workshop
Thursday 25 June, 4pm-7pm
Argyle House, Main Hall
Youth Hub pass required, places are very limited
Want to master the craft of scriptwriting? In this practical workshop you will learn how to consolidate your story ideas into a professionally formatted script. Please arrive with some ideas, characters or themes to develop throughout this session. We will be focusing on writing a short narrative film of no longer than 15 minutes.
